The Millennium Creek Project

Check out the creek

Video of the restoration work

First, you must check out what the creek looked like before the project started

It is important to realize whay we restored this small trout stream into a habitatable environment with spawning habitat for annual reproduction of wild trout, like an urban hatchery, here in the heart of the community!

The construction of pool habitats was a rather large task

If you are restoring a trout stream, you need to create wintering pool habitats so that juvenile trout can find shelter in a deeper water habitat, when the cold winter winds blow below zero temperatures and the formation of surface ice occurs for brief periods throughout the winter months.

Getting Close To The Finish

The channel survey and cutting  was followed by a three year program of fish habitat enhancement.

Video of Juvenile trout in pool habitats on Millennium Creek

Check out this great video of how juvenile trout can stack up in pool habitats at critical times during migrations and overwintering. The pool habitats are valuable all year round, so it is a win win objective to have them on a trout stream.

Early Millennium Creek water quality results

This is the result sheet from water quality lab testing in the early stages of the Millennium Creek restoration, completed prior to any start of planning. First we needed to see if the stream's water would sustain a wild trout population. Note: the high levels of orthophosphate-P.
